THE HEART OF EVANGELIZATION

The Heart of Evangelization: Jesus Christ, Prayer, and Discipleship

“Make disciples of all nations…” – Jesus Christ (Mt 28:19)

“The purpose of our lives is to reveal God to men. … There is nothing more beautiful than to be surprised by the Gospel, by the encounter with Christ. There is nothing more beautiful than to know Him and to speak to others of our friendship with Him.” – Pope Benedict XVI, Inaugural Papal Mass Homily

In our post-Christian culture of religious decline, it is mission critical that Catholics are empowered to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. The question is HOW?

  • First, we must understand the call to evangelization and what it means to be a missionary disciple of Jesus Christ.
  • Second, since we cannot give what we do not have, disciples must not only know about God but know God personally through prayer and sacraments. This intimate and fulfilling relationship matures and flows out to others.
  • Third, while religious commitment declines, interest in spirituality is increasing. By focusing on enhancing spiritual health, we can tap into the popularity of both spirituality and a healthy wellbeing.

The Heart of Evangelization is a 2-3 talk series centered on Jesus Christ, fostering an intimate spiritual life, and forming missionary disciples in practical ways.

“The great mystical tradition…shows how prayer can progress, as a genuine dialogue of love, to the point of rendering the person wholly possessed by the divine Beloved, vibrating at the Spirit’s touch, resting filially within the Father’s heart. It is a journey totally sustained by grace, which nonetheless demands an intense spiritual commitment and is no stranger to painful purifications (the ‘dark night’). But it leads, in various possibly ways, to the ineffable joy experienced by the mystics as ‘nuptial union.’” – Pope St. John Paul II
